Picked up a pair of suede chaps that I would like to make into leggings or botas, problem is they are a light gray to light blue color. What can I use for a dye to color them brown? Is it even possible? Would love to buy brain tan deerskins but I am on a tight budget and like to eat on a regular basis. Thanks for any remedies or suggestions.

If there is a piece that you can trim off try a bleach soak, if color was added it most often can be removed. You may wind up with a close to BT look. If the "sample" works soak the chaps, and support to dry much like you would a wool sweater.

Some folks have good results with using RIT Dye Remover in the washing machine when using leather. I'd to a test swatch from the chaps first, though, let it soak and dry and see what happens, then do the rest of the leather.

Not sure if it is still available but I used to have this real strong smelling liquid leather dye. Came in quart bottles. Used the small trim paint rollers to apply it to suede, worked nicely.
