The David M. Stewart Museum in Montréal recently purchased an 18th-century fowling piece from a dealer in the United Kingdom.

18th century would be the 1700's, the photo shows a nipple gun, but I did not read it had been converted from flint?
 
Looks to me like the photo showing the caplock was another gun, a musket, mentioned in the second article.
 
yes, that was a second gun they discovered had fancy silver mounts after cleaning. In fact they determined it was a "chiefs grade" gun, thats why it had been converted...
