I have just bought this rifle based on this photo, it didn't cost much. Is this English or American? It has a interchangable smoothbore barrel as well. Any info appreciated.

That's a slow download and a far-away picture but it's English. Hawkens and other plains rifle makers used English features but the buttplates were much narrower and more curved.

Well then, you just got a helluva deal on an English rifle. Extra fowling barrel too eh? You're probably looking at a $1500.00 rig EASY. Interesting steel rod. Are you going to give us more info when you have it in hand?
Congrats!

Thanks, folks, It cost me $200  Do these firearms, one with interchangeble barrels, have a specific name?

Thanks

Rich-if you click on the lower right corner of the picture, it can be resized to a much larger, more detailed photo.

The style is english: flat rather than curved buttplate and short, slender forestock. What is the barrel length? An English percussion gun's barrel should be around 30 in. or less. Are English proofs present on the breech?

Antique of modern, $200 is an UNUSUALLY good price. I would be wary of showing it around much if I bought it. Any provenence come with it?

I was wondering about that 200 also, then I saw where it is could be all different up north. Fred :hatsoff:

I haven't received it yet, so I don't know if it will be a shooter. It is hard to buy based on one photo, but $200 is not alot to venture. I have had good luck from this place, the last musket I bought for $200 from them was an 1794 Virginia Contract musket.

Well, the Germans made a lot of them three barreled guns, but that one looks to have both a bolt handle stickin' up and a finger lever on the bottom! Danged if I know! :haha:

Is there a makers name on the lock and or barrel? If it is English made (which it appears to be) I might be able to find some information on the gun maker.
