Found this one today and tried it out. A little heavy but worked good. 1 cup of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix the dry ingrediants well then add enough water to make a sticky dough. Drop in preheated dutch oven and cook 10 -15 min at around 350*. You can also wrap this around a stick and cook!

I mixed up a batch last night (wound up substituting some baking soda for baking powder and using a bit of sugar) and they disappeared pretty quickly when I took them to a gathering of 20/30-something year olds!

Google master mix recipes. The use of baking powder might not pass the PC/HC test but the biscuits will. Also good for pancakes.

use buttermilk if available - or sour milk will do even better. it reacts with the bp to rise the dough when heated.

"it reacts with the bp to rise the dough "

you put black powder in your biscuits?

Baking powder reacts to heat by releasing CO2. Baking soda will release CO2 in the presence of an acid like buttermilk. A primitive form of baking soda was available early 1800's so that might even be HC/PC.
