Well the pre rutt is on. I was at our local rondyvoo last weekend and woke up to the sweet sound of a nice bull.
I took my soon to be wife out last night to teach her a little calling. we set up over a draw behind our house and no sooner did I start hitting a little estridge cow than a spike appeared out of nowhere a running. we sat tight, he got within 15 yrs before smelling us an skeedaddled.

wish I could be there, maybe in a year or two I'll beable to go on another elk hunt. Went to Montana a few years ago with a bow, had a blast.

It's hard to believe that it is that time of year again. Autumn is just around the corner. too bad down here in TX it's still 95+ degrees outside :(

If I were back in Alaska I'd be getting ready for moose hunting this weekend :(

Man it sounds like you have a very interesting life! As kid I lived in Tulelake California, right under the flyway and on the rim of the Lavabeds National Forest. My parents were homesteaders. A good friend of ours was a hunting and fishing guide. The man was so full of stories he couldn't stop talking most of the time. Great guy and fun to be around. Most of our meat came from hunting or fishing. Very unusual for us to eat store bought meat. It didn't hurt that some other friends were cattlemen.

Hope your season is a good one.

The area I planed to hunt early is on fire, about 30,000 acres gone so far. Oh well I'll just move on :surrender:
