REDROOSTER, try 25-35 gr.FFF poswer and .451 balls. That ought to be a good load....although the pistol might hold as much as 40 gr FFF. Dont forget to cover the bass with lube after ya load them.
Let us know how she shoots...and

If AA is Arm2Armour, did you find the communications to be satisfactory? I ordered something from them also and found communication difficult. My order should be here Monday however.

Do you have a pic of your new revolver?

No AA is Auction Arms and i expect it in around friday of next week

i can't seem to get a pic to stick :cursing:

The 1860 Army cylinder is one of the smallest Colt cylinders that there is. 25 grains of 3Fg is more than sufficient. The short barrel of the sherrif's model means that not all of the powder will burn in the barrel...you'll have quite a nice fireworks show as it is. Putting more powder into the cylinder will just result in a bigger show, without much of an increase in bullet speed.

The revolver will fuction better longer with the smaller charge and thus require less cleaning between shooting strings :)

Have fun with that thing!

Yes the primary reason for buying it was because it is a shorter barrel and I have small hands also I am 5'8" and a big old dragoon 45 is a little too big I had a 36 a long time ago that I liked a lot but that was 30 years ago however we are coming back i will most likly get another 36 to some time soon:grin:

what if i used a 44 cal lead hollow base the cal, would be the same but the bullet would be lighter
would i get a good muzzel volisety out of it :hmm: :)

Yes, the muzzle veloscity would increse with a lighter projectile. Tumbling as a result of slightly mis-aligned ramming as well as extra gases blowing out of the muzzle at the point the round leaves the barrel could also hamper accuracy somewhat. This is why for competition, most if not all revolver shooters will use regular balls or a heavier slug and not the light-weight hollow-base you speak of.

Size and weight are of course personal issues. I'm 2" shorter than you and the holster for my Walker isn't dragging on the ground yet :haha: :rotf: :shocked2: . The 9" barrel on the thing helps even-out the fact that I routinely go up against single-shot pistols with adjustable sights and most of the time give them a run for their money. I even beat them sometimes!

I'm going in the opposite direction as far as barrel length goes...I'm considering buying a 1858 NMA Remmy "Buffalo" revolver with a foot-long barrel and adjustable sights for the novelty shoots my club has. That way I don't have to guess where 6.5 inches low is on a clay bird or CD or a playing card!

Have fun and make smoke!

welcome to the fire,I' new here also.
I got a Euroarms ,1860 Army, bout the most I kin get in the cylinder is 25 grains of blackpowder, maes a big bang, accuracy sucks tho.for targets I use 12 gr of BP,12 gr of corn meal 457 ball and crisco.
I use corn meal for filler ,to git the ball close to ,barrel (so it doesn't have to jump into the rifling). Its also safer.
3 in groups at 25 yd.
50 yds,well never mind

that cool I hadn't though about the corn meal and that is not bad 4 25yd and 50 yards for a real use and old time use is not pratical I us to shoot singel action combat and was abel to get off 2 shouts in 1.6 second at 10yards with a group of 2 inches no aming from the hip im almost 60 now and the shorter barrel will be alot of fun getting back at it again

They won't let us play like that up in this sandbox. In competition that is,gravel pits for playin like that.
Altho at our rendezvous we usedta have duels, before they got all anal bout guns.we'd set up two steel plates bout 15 yards out ,an the two shooters step up , guns drwn and held ,facin up ,like the old duelers did,at the signal.let er rip.was fun, some guys tried ta aim,and some used instinct shootin.
Heck,60 ,sites probly a waste time anyways, git er dun, boy
Have fun with yer new shooter
