I won this .62 calibre Dog Lock Musket at the Sespe Rendezvous this morning.

Does anyone have experience loading and shooting this type of musket?

Does a .58 or .60 ball with a patch and 40 grains of FF powder make sense?

Any comments are welcomed.

The .600" or .610" diameter ball will probably be the ticket, depending on actual bore size. A charge of 40 grains of either FFg or FFFg should be a safe level. guns like this don't need huge powder charges. Good luck and fun with your new toy!

Thanks Wes/Tex.

I should also correct my initial post and state it is a pistol and not a musket.

I will shoot it towards the end of the month when our club has their black powder shoot.

ECW horse pistol. Made in India. Good luck with the Cosmoline inside and out.

Yeah, I'd certainly use 2F and lean towards conservative loads. Please NEVER load up to the caliber in grains of powder on this arm!

You don't have to patch, cushon wad over 40 grains ball then card wad or use hornets nest for both. Nice prize!
