I'm looking at a rifle online and hesitant when I see that epoxy and glue has been used. I'm also hearing that a lot of builders are using these materials. Is this the norm? I kind of want a rifle made the way they were originally, But I respect common practice.
Should epoxy and glue be red flags when buying a gun sight unseen?

What was glued and where/why was epoxy used?

Horn inlay is glued behind the trigger guard and many of the gaps have a dark glue or filler visible around the furniture. It looks like the maker's mark is filled with epoxy.

Use of rifle and price should be taken in to consideration. Hunting rifle or a status symbol?

Thats a good point. It would be used to bring home meat in ML season. That said it would sit on my wall next to a Martini Henry and a reproduction Brown Bess.

I cringe at bedding glass, too much brass, and love workmanship and good care.

If epoxy and glue are irritating to your thoughts, keep looking.

You could also make a list of what you find desireable. For example stock, lock, barrel, sights, caliber, build.

Research each item in your list and research.

This forum has an excellent search function and there are in depth posts listed.
