I have been looking at a Kentucky Barn gun or a Cumberland smoothbore from Early Rustic Arms. Do any of you have one or know someone who owns one? I sure would like to hear some first hand accounts of this companies guns, even if its not the exact same gun that I want.

Thanks -Erik

sorry Eric, a bit of humor here.. but why on earth would anyone shoot thier own barn?? :shocking: heaven knows no-one else would let you do it to theirs.... dave...

the farm across the road started pig farming...what a stink...well the guy that lived next door to me hated the pig smell also..he was an old retired guy..told me he would like to shoot his barn with his shotgun...i told him it was too far it wouldnt hurt it anyway...well a couple nights later i hear this bam bam bam and see bright flashes of light at my windows...he is in his front yard shooting across the hyway with his shotgun... :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake:dont know if it made him feel better or not...i didnt ask...i hope he is in the HAPPY HUNTING GROUNDS.... :front: :front: :front:

I owned one and only was able to shoot about 50 round through it before a good friend wanted it was he has it now and loves it to death I've tried to get it back but it aint happening Larry is a great guy to work with My gun was a virginia smooth rifle similar to the barn gun he has a few options that yuo might be interested in check about his kits they are extremly simple to work with and real reasonable. bb75

I don't own one but have handled his guns before and they look well made especially for the money. Another thing to look at is the fact that he has about a year and a half wait now. That should also say something for the quality of his guns. Spent quite some time talking with Larry at Ft. Dechartres last fall and he seems to be a real nice fellow.

I spoke to Jack just before Friendship and the webpage is seriously out of date. He told me he has nothing left. Everything has been sold and that listing is from 2004.

So are his prices on the web current or have they gone up? I saw his ad in backwoodsman and it said 650.00 for the barn gun but, it does not say weather that price is in the white or complete. Thanks to those who responded.

End of May I spoke to and purchased a Fowler from Jack Garner at TV Manuf. He , at that time had a few smothbore Fowlers in his shop. .Received same on June 10th . More then pleased witht the gun and price . Mine was 695 US..
The ERA guns I have never held but hear good things about them as well.
Good Luck.

There is a fellow by the name of Greg Christian who I just bought a fowler from in Mississippi. He is very reasonable and builds a quality gun. He used a Jack Garner barrel and L & R lock and man does it look good. I know Chambers and Getz are probably better components but for the money you cannot beat this guy. He is new so as his name gets out I'm sure the prices and wait are bound to increase. I have to agree with Rich I have no idea how these guys sell guns at these prices. Jack Garner, TVM, ERA, Jackie Brown ect. I've been working on a transitional piece from scratch and have around 450.00 in parts alone and still need to buy a couple small things. I will say these guys fill a niche for those of use who can't afford to drop 1500-2000.00 on a custom gun. Thank you.

I really like the looks of Jackie Browns carolina smoothbore but have heard his guns can be hit and miss. If I was guaranteed I would get a good one I would order one tommorow.

For all of us that have a hard time hittin' them little white 3X5 cards with the big "X" on em'........Well, barns should be easier to hit! :haha: :haha:

Somebody is gonna make a fool outa me and declare they can't hit the broad side of a barn! :haha: :haha:

Jackie had a lot of problems for a period of time, he contacted me a few weeks ago about some serious quality isssues I had with a gun several years ago and offered to do whatever it took to make it right and he has been on another forum making the same offers to any and all who have had issues with his product in the past, the Carolina gun is one of the sweetest guns to mate shoulder and eye I have ever handled, I would contact Jackie and talk with him if you have an interest in his guns, I believe he is making an honest effort to get back on track.

This is good to know. I think I'll give him a call tomorrow. I really like the looks of this gun. That and I read Bob Spencers web page, he seemed to really like his. If any of you have'nt been to his web page you should check it out it is a good read.
