Muzzle loaders endangered by the EU (press release by FACE)

June 8, 2016 Black Powder No. 1. 2 Comments

So you think you see a flintlock historical rifle in the picture? You are wrong. According to some EU bureaucrats this is a dangerous tool of evil that has to be banned in the name of the fight against terrorism”¦

“The Dutch Presidency proposed to ban Category D and reproductions of antique firearms, currently not regulated at EU level, while obliging sport shooters to join recognized associations.

June 3, 2016, Brussels ”“ In the name of the fight against terrorism and organized crime, the Dutch Presidency proposed to ban reproductions of antique firearms and deleting the entire category D while imposing repressive regulations on sport shooters.

In its last bid to close the deal before the end of the semester and without the slightest consultation, the Dutch Presidency of the Council aimed at hunters by removing from the text of the Firearms Directive the exception for reproductions of antique weapons (single shot firearms loaded from the muzzle), which are used by hunters in some countries, target shooters, collectors, and for historical re-enactments.

The same restrictive approach is adopted against sport shooters with new constraints on the size of the magazines and introducing obligatory membership of a shooting organization and making it conditional to participation to sports competitions.

Who will believe that the removal of the Category D and the prohibition of reproductions of antique firearms will effectively contribute to the fight against organized crime and terrorism? No report highlighted that reproduction of antique firearms constitute a danger for security and society. Criminals using Kalashnikovs and arms dealers who supply terrorists on the black market will not be affected by these new constraints which exclusively hit honest citizens, legal owners of single-shot reproductions of antique firearms.

The ban of reproductions, will have a relevant economic impact, as these firearms are currently sold in many EU Members States namely France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, an important share of the market. This provision will immediately condemn to bankruptcy several small and medium enterprises and jeopardise the jobs of thousands in the EU. The 12 million legal owners will undergo substantial additional constraints, with a proliferation of new administrative procedures.

In addition the Dutch Presidency seeks to move single-shot long firearms with smooth-bore barrels, alarm and signal weapons, deactivated firearms to Category C. This broadening of the scope of Category C is not justified by any criterion of dangerousness and is therefore not acceptable.

The consequences on administrations cannot be determined in the absence of an impact assessment but are likely to trigger the clogging of national registration systems for the coming years and an increase of administrative costs.

For FACE, these unnecessary and draconian measures will provoke the anger of the 12 million law abiding citizens who will be wondering why the EU does not focus on the real public safety issues such as traceability of weapons, their irreversible deactivation and interoperability of databases.”

muzzleloaders in the EU

Why would this surprise you, with the elections on line this november a certain female if she gets her way will make this look like a fairy tale for the U.S. The worlds leaders are all aware that if you control the sheep dog the sheep have nothing to do but follow suit.If you look at the complete picture and compare all the bad guys to the law abiding good guys who really is the biggest number. All we gotta do is wake up and smell the roses so to speak. It happened with the first A.W.I. perhaps it is as fore told that history really does repeat it self. To bad that in the long run the innocent will suffer. With the U.N. and leaders as you mentioned and the possibility of future U.S. leaders along with the mis- informed populace we all may be in for a eye opening experience.

Seldom is a law ever passed that doesn't generate extreme wealth for a small group of people...

The question is, who stands to benefit monetarily?... :hmm:

More likely, this is an attempt to break up the European union by diving countries....

I used to tell my shooting buddies I had so many BP frontstuffers because I thought they'd be the safest firearms to own. Guess I'm the fool. Apparently they look as dangerous to some people as all my centerfire revolvers, shotguns, rifles, pistols and of course this includes the "machine guns" like my 1911's and 10/22's.

Which reminds me....Did any of you catch the news article about how the House Brothers are suddenly getting requests for having all their custom rifles made with 18 inch barrels? It seems they're a lot handier to use in drive-by shootings.

I'm speculating that, in addition to the muzzleloader ban, all Euro subjects will be required to have and ID number tattooed into their lower lip. All livestock are required to be so identified.

I am brought to think its much like California's anti lead laws. We can't have people making their own ammunition, not about protecting the environment, or saving the children.

I'm not so sure it's a matter of having their heads up their butts.

I think they see it as a handy excuse to ban and / or regulate yet another category of firearm that so far as escaped their attentions.

Most Europeans, including the Brits, like being in the EU.
I do not forsee this action, if implemented, causing any noticeable stir with the general public over there, since the sport shooting part of the population is miniscule.

BTW, Britain WILL NOT vote to leave the EU in the upcoming election. Even if Brexit were to pass, the politicians will delay it indefinitely.

Just like in the US, a growing part of the population likes having most of their life decisions made for them by government.

Joseph de Maistre said it best: "Every nation gets the government it deserves". If Europeans want to lay down and get stripped of even their most basic freedoms, then they deserve to be remembered as a footnote in the annals of history as a failed idea.

The number one obsession of government is to disarm its' population. It makes the citizens incapable of any form of dissent, while at the same time completely dependent on government authority for protection. Essentially giving government carte blanche authority to completely beat down the civilian population, while at the same time forcing the civilians to finance their own abuse.

If I had to speculate on this current legislation, they are going to propose the most draconian laws imaginable, and then "compromise" on additional taxes, fees, and permits to further leech off of the taxpayers.

As a side note Bram Stoker's Dracula had nothing to do with vampires...

Nah....
That's already been decided. The last government that ruled pretty much all of Europe got that worked out. The numbers go on the inside of the left forearm as you get off the train upon arrival at the camp.

1. Obviously, that little bit of information was ill-judged, in view of the recent referendum.

2. The point was made that while most folks may like having their life decisions made for them by government, it's a far different matter when it's a FOREIGN form of government doing it.
