Anyone have and know the nipple thread size for a Euro Arms ( Armi San Paulo) Model 1861 Enfield Musketoon?

It's very likely that it is 8x1.25 mm which may appear to be close to 5/16-24 but isn't. Go by Lowes, buy an 8x1.25 bolt and see if it screws in easily. Track of the Wolf carries that nipple and they say "8-1.25mm metric thread, for Euroarms Italian replica Enfield muskets"

Tanks. I haven't purchased it yet. The 8-1.25 is what I guessed, it was a bit confusing. One chart listed Euroarms as 6.75 but did not specify musketoon so I was somewhat stuck. Some bonehead suggested it was same as 5/16x18 but oh heck no. Little too wise for that. I have also read that some use a #11 nipple when they are just perferating paper. What's your opinion on that?

A #11 (or #10) cap will work just fine and you don't need magnum caps either. I use musket caps as I shoot in a competition where hits per minute are what wins the match for the team and musket caps are much easier to pull from a cap pouch and install than the smaller caps. The wings also tell you which side is up while your are retreiving and installing the cap and last the rules require musket caps. I'm used to them, like them and that's what I would use but the choice is yours and #11 caps may be far easier for you to find locally. I have the advantage of living about 10 miles from the GOEX distributor who supplies most of the powder and caps used by the N-SSA members and right now I have about 6 thousand musket caps on hand as opposed to less than 2 thousand 10s & 11s.

Thanks. I can find the musket caps but I shoot other rifle and have poot load of 11s. Just would be one less thing to have to buy just to be range shooting. If I was to get a chance to hunt with it I would get a tin or find a mag-spark. Honestly where I live anything I would hunt would be cut in half by a 58. Might shoot big ol hog with it but then I don't care much what it would do to it. Other then that a 45 or 50 good enough here. Think I'm mainly drooling for a new toy and a shop near me has a really nice musketoon. They have a Zoueve (sp) too but I like the shorter Musketoon handling.

A little off topic, Hawkeye I just moved to NOVA and am looking for a place to shoot. I just restored an old Lyman (armi sao paolo) musketoon of my fathers from the 70's and now it deserves some range time.

Not Hawkeye, but NOVA was my old stomping grounds for many years.

Are you anywhere close to Manassas or Marine Corps Base Quantico? If not, here is the link to an organization that can help you find a place to shoot.

You should come over to Winchester this weekend. We're having our National competition with Civil War era weapons including artillery live fire. There will be vendors on site, ever hear of Lodgewood or S&S?

If you need powder and caps, Back Creek is at the edge of our range.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I was out of town this past weekend but would definitely like to check out one of those events
