Then I asked him how such a beautiful, expensive long gun is so nonchalantly passed among the many visitors and he said that it speeded up the aging process.....Fred

The gun's, or his? :rotf:
I've cut my finger several times, mostly while wiping off the flint. Finally learning to wipe it with a scrap of cloth :hmm:

Yes, cut my thumb wiping off the flint grabbed a patch to stop the blood makes interesting color for patch lube.

Never, ever have cut myself on a flint lock. Slicing, well, that's a different story. Not sure if I've ever done an afternoon shoot without finding corpuscles on my rifle. My friends call me "Frankenfinger"!

Nope never cut my finger but I did put a nice gash on the inside of my thigh picking up a smoothbore while seated with if between my legs. :cursing: :cursing: :shake:

Yes I have, I bear the scars on my hands from knapping my own gun flints, it got so bad at one time my wife tried to get me a restraining order against flint. :haha:

 If you look real close you should see a nice line one the thumb from wiping the flint off. Ouch bleed like a stuck pig and to add insult to injury got some black powder in the wound as well.

John

Did it AGAIN today cleaning my rifle after a day shooting. I oiled the frizzen spring and was working it back and forth. I managed to poke the corner of the flint into my thumb. Bled like a stuck pig.

You know, you guys are a real pain in the A** (or should I say finger). Here I was walkin' around all proud that I had never cut my finger on my flint and sure as heck had to happen today. Changing the flint on my rifle so I can go shooting tomorrow, slipped as I was tightening the new one in place. Got the inside of the second knuckle index finger half way across, bled like a stuck pig.

I think most of us have cut ourselves on sharp flints on flintlocks. I have to take warfarin as an anticoagulant. I remeber once bleeding all over the place. :cursing: Now I wear gloves when shooting as any sharpor hard edge causes my skin to tear if I bump against it. :barf: Old age is not for sissies. :hatsoff:

Probably. I've cut myself on just about everything at least once. Being a mechanic I bleed pretty regularly. It's gotta be pretty spectacular to make me take note. Sometimes I notice the blood trail before I realize it's me doin' the bleedin'!
:hmm: I do recall a capper that took a nice groove outta my palm with the front sight.

So I read the thread about cutting your finger on a flintlock and thought, "yeah, haven't done that in a while". So last night I'm reassembling a flint pistol and picked up the lock by the top of the cock. Danged if I didn't cut my thumb...but not on the frizzen edge of the flint. No, it was a little spur sticking out on the outside edge back by the heel of the flint...nowhere near the edge that's supposed to do the cutting.

So I figure that thread cursed me. And you can bet that if anyone posts a thread about "have you ever blown up a muzzleloader?", I ain't reading it!
