Fabbed a multi-use stand

So one of the problems i've had when shooting at my gun club is a method to vertically secure my rifle and pistol for loading. Did some research and saw some rellly cool and functional stand pics on the net. I wanted something that could serve as a rifle and a pistol stand, be clamped rigid to a shooting bench and fold down for easy compact transportation. I had a 10' length of Trexx 1x6 and made a pretty cool stand. A few pics :





May need to tweak the design features a bit but i'm pretty confident the basic functionality will work. Unfortunately we have got hit with early snow, and more on the way so not sure when i'll be able to test at the range..

Well thought out, the only thing I would do would be to shorten the two bolts a little and put wing nuts on them.

Yup, the bolts in the pic were all I had. Now that I have the stand completed, I need to get slightly shorter bolts and wing nuts.

I'd mount those bolts upside down....First time you bump that pistol against one sticking up and scratch the stock you'll wish you had....Or at least put some covers on them....

Can't mount the bolts upside down as I need to clamp the stand flush on the top of our shooting benches. Once I get the minimum length bolt needed, i'm thinking just slip some protective rubber 1/4" hose over the threads.

I thought about that too.
You don't really need to have the stand fully supported by the table.
You could clamp it on, leaving the point of the long bolts just over the edge of the table.
(follow that?)
The pistol butt would still be over the bench where you need it to be for strength, but you could use carriage bolts inserted from the top and wing nuts.

I would make a second butt stock rest for a revolver that can be used as the clamp. That way you could turn the bolts over and use the other rest as the clamp.

I would like to see your rest installed on the bench so I can better understand what is meant by clamping flush to the bench. The rifle rest has to be off the bench.

Yes, it is nice to have a workshop and some imagination to do things like that. I have a nice workshop but...........no imagination to design sumptin' like that. :redface: I gotta copy other folks stuff.

Clam, I suggest a pair of T-nuts mounted in the underside of your base. Screws would thread in from the top and could be cut off at the exact length you need and the base can be mounted flush on the bench top.
