Fowler/musket just under way, with a talented friend doing the build. Based on an early 18th c. New England piece, it will have a maple stock, a Don Getz 10 ga. bbl, 42” and “squared” at the breech, sheet iron furniture, and a monster “George I” era lock (#636 from TRS).
So, that .775 bore…. Should I get 1F powder, or will 2F suit? Good ball size for paper cartridges? I have some .735 ball laying around and hoping those will do….

That was combo is probably behind the blown pattern.
I shoot 3&4f mix in my shotguns with just a few cards as a wad. No blown patterns and game in the bag. 👍🏻
You mis understand. None of my guns with jug choke shoot blown patterns no matter how I load them, part of why jug chokes are so desirable. My 12 bore skeet barrel only had .005 jug and would shoot any combination of cards and wads with no blown patterns. When it was cylinder bored it wouldn't take a lubed wad without a blown pattern. Using 1/4" lubed felt wads work well with or without a jug. When shooting skeet, you must have a wad that carries lube as you have to load at least 25 times.

Thin cards will still ram down a fouled bore and by adding a blob of lube between them every now and then keeps the fouling soft.
Plus, I'm only carrying one item for wadding.👍🏻

@Britsmoothy ...
Was it Patton or Churchill who said " the English and the Americans are 2 similar peoples separated only by LANGUAGE!!!" LOL

I used 3fff in my 12 bore shooting skeet and pheasant. You have to be careful with 3fff as it likes to blow the center out of your pattern. I found 3fff to be slightly faster ignition. My 12 bore was jug choked too, a jug is very forgiving about what you put down it.
May i ask Who jugged it ?
