Anybody out ever use a feelie box in their shooting matches? Maybe a description is needed. I usually turn a wooden box sideways until the open side is on one side of the box. I cover this with a piece of cloth. Another way is to place the box slightly above head height(so folks cant see inside it). To take the feelie box test you place your hand inside the box and try to identify the contents by feel alone. You then write down what you believe you have identified. Most places put several items in the box and set a time limit for the actual "feeling". Items such as lock parts...various nuts (walnut/buckeye/chestnut/hickory nut)....spring vise...dice...small tobacco pipe....rifle balls(different calibers)...bar of lead...snuff box...barrel wedge..old rifle sight....ball mould....flint...striker....You get the idea....and you can be as creative as your devious mind cares to be. Each correct identification is scored one point in the overall shoot.

Have never done that, TwoShadows, but it sounds fun... Think I'll bring your idea up at Rendezvous, if you don't mind? :)

I'd be delighted for you to use the idea OHJO...that's basically why I mentioned it. I believe this forum is designed for just that reason.I have gotten a couple good ideas from here, and expect to continiue to do so. Maybe I look at it wrong, but I feel like we older shooters/rendezvousers have a responsibility to the newer ones to pass along such info...and we "old dogs" can learn a few new tricks too. If you need more info on the feelie boxes or such, feel free to contact me personally and we can chew on the subject anytime.

Thanks, TwoShadows... I agree completely with you... Anything we can pass on to the young folks and ideas we can get and put into use from all ages of this sport is what its all about... Thank you for this idea, I'm sure we'll put it to use... I've said it before and I'll say it again, muzzleloading folks are absolutely the best folks out there! :) :applause:

Good idea Two Shadows, I'm gonna try that at one of our club meetings. I'll make up something for a prize. should be fun. Thanks.

What if some ornery critter fills the box full of buffalo chips and beaver castors?

Then we may have to get Zonie to stick his hand in there first... :winking: :haha:

Ye done filled that box full o Shreaded Wheat biskets an Quailie bird eggs!.....Now what are that smell?....Hay, Mooskeetman, ye cookin somethin oer thar?...Smells a mite better than the last time ye tried cookin somethin!...Course ye dam neer pisoned half o the camp that time ::

Hey Zonie, whut iffn we wuz ta putt a mouse trap in thar(fur mousketman o course...) 'n use a stop watch ta see how long hit takes him ta unsprung hit?

I ain't stickin my hand in nuttin Zonie's holding that he calls his "feelie box"!

Last time he asked me to pull his finger and it spoiled the whole hunt. Two of the mules had to be put down and I couldn't see out of my left eye for a week.

The local paper called the spot a crop circle the next day, but they couldn't explain all the dead birds inside it.

At sounds like an idear! Course we'uns would have ta stand kinda close an lisen fer the "snap" cause it mite take a minute or so afore he reacts to it.
Wit him a shootin a Bess as much as he does, it kinda learns his nerves not ta respond ta little thins like a mouse trap on tha end o' his finger.

Hay Stump, ye pulled tha wrong finger! Ah should a warned ye ta pull tha lill finger what's fer beginners. Ye pulled the Proffesional Magnum Finger, what are reserved fer em old timers who's hearin aint so good.

I guess I should be happy you're not using a #4 double spring beaver trap... :shocking:

And Zonie has a self-pulling finger, that's why it's over 108 degrees in Phoenix...
