I use files to make grooves and such in my powder horns and am looking for SMALL ******* files and can't find a source. I am looking for 1/16" and 1/8" diameter files. All that I can find in that size are fine files, which are not agressive enough to cut horn well. I have an 8" long ******* that has a 3/16" diameter but it is too wide for the work I want to do. I need a ******* grade file and not the more agressive roughing file. Any ideas?
Thanks,

If you can find a pack of small needle files, that might fill your bill. You can look at some wood carving files, I forget the name for them, riffler files I think...

Needle files or Jewelers files,

Craftsmen (sears) makes a nice set and they have the quality. The shank or handle part is .115 diameter (1/8=.125) and the point of the round taper is .050. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153... & Awls&psid=FROOGLE01&sid=IDx20070921x00003a

Or, you can roll a piece of sandpaper across a table edge, then use a small peice of it supported by a toothpick or stiff wire, kinda hard on the fingers though.

Those look like the China made ones I bought off of ebay. If so they are really fine cut. They get clogged up after a couple passes on a horn. They are not very hard either, didn't work very well on metal. I really like the set I got at Lowe's Home Improvement. They were 20 something dollars but I've use them alot.

Google Jantz Knife Supply. They have a very good selection of files, from needle files to 60 degree lathe files. Excellent quality and good prices. Very nice people to do business with.
