I've read that op wads help with accuracy with a flat base bullet.I shootgreat plains hbhp 390 gr bullet I realize that op wad on hb bullet will not work. What can I use for filler under this bullet and how much filler do I use to prevent the bullet from deforming.Or do I need a filler? My gun is 54caldeerstalker.

You do not use any filler under a Hollow Based Bullet. They are designed to deform. That is why they are hollow. They expand to fill your rifling to prevent blow-by.

Put your HB bullet right down on the powder. Any filler prevents them from expanding as they should.

Ok I'm kind of new here so sorry if I ask dumb questions just trying to learn. I appreciate any help. thanks

Like Bounty said. I don't use anything under my minies............Except powder.

:hmm: :hmm: I used a lot of Hornady .45cal 285grn Great Plains bullets...I ALWAYS used Oxyoke wonderwads over the powder and I couldn't have imagined them being any more accurate.

I also suspect Hornady would have made mention of it by now on their product label if overpowder wads caused problems and were not to be used...

We have used a thick card under a hbb succesfully. some barrels/bullets like it -some dont. You just need to try it.

after all is said and done, this is an impirical hobby. try a few groups and see what a filler does in your particular rifle.

the balancing act: keep an open mind, but not so open that your brains leak out.
