What a deer season! Took a nice 12 pt with bow on October 27 to fill my buck tag (See "Good News - Bad News" in the non-muzzleloading section). Today I finished by filling my anterless tag on this nice doe. Used my 54 cal Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken loaded with 90 gr of 777 and a Hornady Great Plains bullet weighing in at 425 gr. The shot was about 60 yards and she dropped in her tracks. I love those kind of tracking jobs.

Now on to some big fat squirrels!

Sounds like a couple good hunts, congratulations !
:hatsoff:
Pretty wood on that rifle too...

You really did have a great season. Good doings.

Deer seem hard to come by around here. I think a lot of it has to do with all the people who run with dogs. Seldom is there a chance for a quiet day in OUR woods. I've seen the deer flashing by in the distance ducking back into thick cover just ahead of the dogs. This is not the kind of area that deer should be hunted with dogs. The flat lands are one thing but it's just an irritant here.

Pretty rifle and doe. Do you know that it would take three or more Texas does to be that size. It sounds as though that load would do for Moose and Elk just fine. It's hard to beat a dead right there shot! Nice going! Geo. T,

This one field dressed at 121 pounds, which is nice, but on the lease I'm on I swear we have some old does that will top 150 or 160 lbs. Early in the season I was passing them up because I didn't want to take a chance of screwing up a stand while waiting for Mr. Big...then they got smart and kept avoiding me! :idunno:

As Roundball says "Whompability"

Hi Spikebuck, love the look of your rifle, I have a Pedersoli missouri river hawken arriving in new zealand next week. I was wanting to put a peep on it and am liking the look of the one on your rifle. Could you please tell me the make and weather it fitted straight on. also where did you get it from.
Thanks heaps mate.
Greg.
