i bought one off e-bay ,a lot easier than making one this one is a simple plane one but works 100% of the time cost 24.00 and enough extras came with it to build 10,000fires check out eb primitives if yoy want one on e-bayjust type in the srech fire piston :)

There is a web site out there that has a bunch of pictures and description on it - www.firepiston.com - I think is the address. Otherwise, a web search for "fire piston" should bring up several places. Also check out www.primitiveways.com - The Society For Primitive Techonology. Wilderness Way magazine and web site also have info on this in the past.

This is one of those interesting technologies that "popped up" in several different areas and time periods around the world in cultures that had no discernable contact with each other. The mystery of how/why still exists.
