I had a hide laying around for years from an upholstery project so I put it to use. It has a full one inch side panel but no welting. I doubled the front flap so it has an internal pocket in the flap. I side-mounted the strap rings because I think they look better that way. Since I just made the whole thing up I'm sure it's not very HC but it's well built and should hold up well.

It's actually a lot more brown than in the photos.

You're well on your way to figuring out Rule 1 of bag building: Hides are never as big as they look, and you run out before you know it.

Long version of "it's only your first, and there will be more!" Nicely done, and I look forward to seeing your next one, too.

Looks great to me! Anything I would make would like a 1st grader did it... my 100th try wouldn't hold a candle to your first! :haha:

It's a saddle stitch, but the threads are crossed over the outside edge rather than just running straight up to the next hole.
