OK it was just a lil doe but it was my first blackpowder deer and I took her with a rocklock.
Never hunted with a muzzleloader before this year. The modern guns seem too easy. In the past dozen years I've regressed (progressed?) from a compound bow and autoloader shotgun back to a recurve bow, a single shot, and now, a flintlock.
My only goal this year was to take a deer with my new GPR flinter and I did it on my first hunt! During the regular firearm season!
Saw a monster buck shortly after field dressing my doe. Still have a buck tag. Maybe I'll see him again tomorrow.
It really just doesn't matter right now. I couldn't be happier! :) ! I did it!
Thanks to all of you guys whose tips and experience helped me git 'er done! :hatsoff:  :hatsoff:

Congratulations, I did the same thing for the first time on Monday, and I know how you feel. I got my first deer with a longbow last year, and my first with a flinter this year. I hope you get a chance at that buck next week!!!! BTW, where are the pictures??????

jethro,
Congratulations!!!!! I'll be using a .50
GPR F/L for the first time this year. Always
used percussion before. Wish me luck i'll need it.

great job jethro! I took my first deer with flint
just last year and have been kicking myself in the
a-- for not getting into this type of hunting sooner. Hunted with percussion GPR & Hawkens for
30 some odd years and it is great but I just can not get enough of the flintlock. I've now have flintlocks in 50 & 54 cal longrifles,45 cal. flint
pistol and a 32 cal flint. being build for me at this time. Again congrats and keep the powder dry.

Jethro, that's outstanding...and don't dumb down the fact that it was a doe...what you did was a significant accomplishment to learn all that you had to learn, and have everything perform as it should at the moment of truth...you'll get some horns...congratulations on a major milestone !!

Congrats on your flintlock kill!!! Awesome stuff and I hope you get a "Ker-flatch..BOOOM!" at that big buck!

Thanks for all the back slappin'!
Congrats on yours too Brian!
Snake-Eyes, I wish you all the luck I can muster!
It is a pretty awesome experience. I hope to repeat it many times.
I have never even seen anyone else carry a flinter in the deer woods around here. Only seen 2 percussions. All my huntin' buddies told me I was nuts. All of 'em are still tryin' to fill a tag. :blah: I love it!

Can't figger out how to get the pic in the post. If you want to look, you'll just have to click.
I never was a 'puter whiz. :shake:

Congradulations...nice job...Simon Kenton's favorite meal was a nice tender doe ham....You can bet your butt that him, Daniel or David wouldn't have passed on a doe...Antlers are greatly overrated as table fare....Any kill with a flinter is a good kill...Enjoy

Way to go Jethro!First flintlock deer, you'll probably not forget that one too soon.

Congratulations! You will find that the meat from a deer killed with a flintlock tastes so much better! Well done! :hatsoff:
