This is my first post and I am glad to be here!
I have an old TC Renegade that was a .54 1-48 twist that would not shoot for me no matter what I tried. After owning this rifle for many years I got the opportunity to start shooting ML matches so instead of looking for a new Ml I ordered a 32" Green Mountain 1-70 twist .50 Calibre drop in barrel, and today was the day to break it in.
So I started dropping 40 grains of 2f Goex, tapped it down, rubbed a .270 Pro Shot cleaning patch with Greased Lightning lube, and set a 179 grain Buffalo Bullet swaged round ball down.
After I got the sights set for 50 yards, I was hitting the 2.5 inch bull easily. Well, I used all the caps in the straight Cash capper, reloaded it, used them again using the same process. The rifle was shooting as good when I quit, after 35 rounds or so, as it was when I started shooting. I don't know if it was the lube on the patch, the blowing technique I was using or what. But the fouling was as soft as could be even after 30-35 shots with no cleaning. All I can say is WOW, the Green Mountain drop in barrel is a great product. It does not have the finish I would have prefered, the machine marks are very visible throughout, but, for $178.00 from Track, what can one expect?
Anyhow, this is just my first experience with the rifle and load and we will try a little more powder tomorrow and check again for group size.
