Got my first flint lock turkey at my place in Virginia. It was only a jake, but since it was my first with a flintlock he had to take the load. Killed at 30 yards. Counted five shots in the neck and at least 2 in the head. Going back up this upcoming Friday and Sat for some more early Spring sitting in the woods and maybe a turkey!

Congratulations skinner! And don't be saying "it was just a Jake"...you just took a wild turkey with a Flintlock !
Jakes are about 1/3 of the typical turkey harvest.
:hatsoff:

ATTABOY! Mule skinner! Congrats! one you'll never ferget! (and hear they skin easier than a mule too!) RC

Congrats...I also got my 1st in VA...In 1979...
I used a .40 caliber...Can you still use rifles in VA??? If so...it would extend your range a bit...

Yes you can still use rifles. The smallest thing I have is 50 cal. and that is a bit too big, but I guess that depends where you hit him doesn't it.
