This is my first gun which I finished last week. Straight Green Mountain barrel, .50 cal 7/8", 42" long. The gun is based on the work of a Womelsdorf/Reading gunsmith, Andrew Fichthorn. It started out as a parts kit, but I ended up making some of the parts. I made the hunter's star from coin silver. I made the front and rear sights, the front blade is coin silver. I'm still messing with the rear sight, it will be blued. The barrel was rust blued using LMF barrel browning. I stained the stock with ferric nitrate crystals in alcohol and tannic acid. It has 4 coats of Chamber's oil on it so far. The lock is a Chamber's Golden Age. I forged the trigger and patchbox release to look like what Fichthorn did. The gun has a 15" LOP. The ramrod is from a hickory split from our woods.
