...NC's Turkey season opener...it'll be a nice cool 42* and overcast/cloudy...perfect cool morning to hunt.
(showers and T-storms forcast but not until later in the afternoon)

I'll be the one just back inside the edge of the woods wearing historically correct camo pants, shirt and Gore-tex raingear, overlooking decoys in a small greenfield.

Good luck to everybody who's going!

Ours starts Sun. the 15th. and forcast is for rain. I'll be the one in PC clothes shaking and shivering in the rain. Good luck to you and everyone else that is out.

Well with the pattern you have it shooting at you can't blame it on the gun! :haha:
Good luck and let us know how much fun you had . Heck just being out there is fun no matter if you get something or not.
Good Luck

I'm going to be in the woods early on the 14th in Smythe County, in SW Virgina. I'll hunt there for a week then be back in Ohio for the opener on the 23rd.

Regards, Dave

I agree...I can only hunt four Saturday mornings, but if I don't get a Tom this year it won't because of the Flintlock.

I've hunted the past two spring seasons...never had to clean my smoothbore...got as close as 100yds to a Tom in full strut by himself out in a field but the woods were thinning out and I couldn't get any closer...could not call him off strut or towards me...when he finally stopped and went back into the woods he never got closer and I never heard from him again.

But just the experience of sitting there for 10 minutes and watching this guy go back and forth with little baby steps like he was on a little railroad track was very interesting...never saw that before in person and I agree, the hunt is everything...killing one would almost be anti-climatic...and dead turkeys don't even photograph very well.

Plus, my Wife of 40 years and I have an agreement:
I can't bring dead animals into the house and she doesn't cook them...sort of a one sided agreement but, 40 years is 40 years.

Dave,
Where you do your hunting in Ohio? I usually
spend my time in the Logan area South of Lancaster. Between my son and I we have taken 4
in the last 7 years.Good luck on your hunts.
snake-eyes:thumbsup:

Bill,
Saratoga is just an hour away from me. could i interest you in a morning of hunting when you come up? squrriel & small game will be open. would really like to meet you.
Ken

A squirrel hunt would be fun but there's just zero slack in the schedule...we're driving up / visiting with family, having the reunion the next day, sleeping in and heading back the following day.
