After almost a year of shooting, testing and barrel bending I got my 12 gauge side by side bouble barrel shotgun to pattern well enough to turkey hunt with. Sunday morning I took it out for the first time and "smoked" my first black powder gobbler!
THAT WAS AWESOME! I've never spent so much time working with a gun and finally getting such a great reward! 17 pounds, 1 1/16 spurs and 9 1/2 inch beard. The load I've ended up with is 95 grains 777 ffg - one 1/8" hard over powder card - two 1/8'" felt wads - 1 1/2 oz. #5 nickle plated lead shot - 2 thin over shot cards. Great pattern to 30 yards and that's about the limit I'm willing to shoot a turkey with it. This first turkey was within 15 yards. I don't post much but I read this forum weekly and just wanted to say THANKS for all the tips supplied by this forum!

Congratulations on the Tom. I took my first one ever last spring with my Navy Arms double barrel .12 ga. I hope to get one this year with my Jackie Brown .20 ga Carolina smoothbore flinter.

Outstanding accomplishment both with the muzzleloader and the turkey...they're very wary birds!
:hatsoff:

Congrats guy, sounds like great excitement

Awww shucks, can't do it....... being almost deaf, can you guys imagine ME trying to call one in? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

It's ok, I've accepted it, and I MORE than make up for it during the deer hunting season.

That turkey fever's really got ya! I don't mean to be picky... but you even spelled "bubble" wrong! :blah: :rotf:

Congratulations! :applause:  :hatsoff:
(I hope I can do the same come April 29 here in PA.)

Jbb, you and Rebel have got one over on me. I have the desire but must admit that I have not completed my homework! Still working on the load here in Carolana! :v
