Here is a powder horn I made. The plug and base are Alder. I sealed the base with beeswax and used a small nail on top and bottom. The “staple” across the bottom is made from a stiff piece of wire sharpened and heated. I’m not sure I’m super happy about the “spout” shape I put in, but it may grow on me. I used a sharpened finishing nail in a pin vise for the scrim.

Spouts a it thick for my taste, but as long as you can transfer powder from the horn to your measure, I won't be too critical.
Yeah the tip was really rounded when I started since it was my first horn I tried to work it into a spout shape. I’m confident it will pour into a measure, and one day I have an excuse to make another with a more choice horn.

It appears that you are traveling in the right direction. There is enough thickness at the neck to allow you to file a groove for the carry thong and then to taper the neck toward the spout. Your first horn will always be special even if it is not your "best" one and I'm betting there will be others.

Yes, Brother. Great advice from RLJ. You can still work down that shoulder into a more pleasing shape and have enough left for another groove for the thong. But, congrats on doing it yerself. That is a big part of this game and an enjoyable part.
