Hello from GE,

this morning I went out to a ladder seat in the forest. At this place I had seen before several "bucksigns". So I baited a bit with corn and pressed apples and they were always eaten. Three sittings were in vain, but today at 05.50 a.m. the buck game. I gave him a PRB out of my .50 deerhunter at 60 meters through the boiler room. He ran away rapidly. So at the place where he was hit there were only cuthairs and no blood. I searched arround, but found nothing. So I called my friend with his foxterrier. At 09:00 am we did the search starting at the hittingplace. The dog ran immediately straight ahead in a certain direction to a thicking. There, about 90 meters away from the hitting place, we found the buck. It was a 8 point roe buck, 38 pounds field dressed.
This is my first roe with a ML. The bullet went through the boilerroom from the right side behind the shoulder, hits the liver and exits on the left side. Load was 90 grs WANO PP, spittled wad, .495 PRB, 0.005 lubed patch.

as soon as the film is developed I'll post pics.

Austausch von GruBen sunny and burning Florida!

Hervorragende Arbeitsleistung,Freund von uns! Bitte beliefern Sie uns mit Lichtbilder!

Congratulations.
Waidmanns Heil.Maybe the first roe who was killed with a ML in the last 100 years here in Germany?
Any pics?

:hatsoff:

Congratulations! That is great. It is a real sense of accomplishment to take game with a muzzleloader, ain't it! I can't wait to see the picture.

der Forster - I think your keyboard is acting up. :haha:

Because of pics: The film will be developed next week, then you can see the latest pics. Please stay patient.

Congratulations on finding the buck. That is a pretty small target to hit. We have lots of dogs here that weigh more than that deer. I had thought they were bigger animals than that. Anyway, its your first, and probably the first taken with a ML rifle legally in a lot of years, so celebrate. :hatsoff:

Congratulations Kirrmeister. Are you sure about that weight? 38 pounds? I don't know what a Roebuck is, but now I have a reason to learn. Bill

Thanks for the congrats. As I can see you all wonder about the smallness of these roes. But they are indeed such small. They are the smallest kind of Deer in Europe. Bucks are weighing about 18-22 kh fielddressed, does about 17-20 kg.

Wait for the pics and you will see it.

congrats :applause: well done :hatsoff: ....how bout some pictures....38 lbs wow i guess they don't get very big :v ...........bob

Kirrmeister,
Congrats on your ML success! :hatsoff: I've been rootin' for ya. We knew you'd do it! Hopefully the first of many.
I hope you took him around and showed off for all them old guys who were disbelievers.
As well as you did in the duel, you should try one with that GPR next...
Weidmanns Heil,
jethro

ps. You should get a digital camera. Download 'em straight to your computer, edit, and post.

Hi jethro224,

thanks. Digicam is in work. Think I'll get one next week. If I had used the GPR I had the buck perhaps not got, because it was bit grey in the mor´ning and open sights difficult to use. But it will be ebtter at the end of march, then it is pretty lighty in the morning. until that I use my Deerhunter with the scope. Excuse me this, but I have to take care for the circumstances and those roes are more active in the early morning and late evening when ligth is grey.

I was very surprised about the bullet effect, only a cal. 50 whole in and out, no deformation.

Bravo!!! Outstanding to hear that you harvested one! I will paitiently but eagerly await photos!

Please do mount the skull and horns in a nice european mount.

Hi Pork Chop,

after butchering the buck, the antlers will be mounted togther with part of the headbone on a nice board, as usual in GE. Because once a year all harvested bucks have to be shown to the public.

Waidmanns Heil !! :hatsoff:
We figured you would connect. Good work!
Best Wishes from the wife and I and our "Pack"

There's not a whole lot of animal there to cause much deformation. Even the bones would be easily penetrated, I would think, on a 38 pound deer. You are using a fairly stout load too.

I've never heard that, in GE, all harvested bucks must be shown. Do they have a big "deer show"? Sounds interesting. Could be fun.

We have deer shows(and turkey and waterfowl) here, but they are voluntary. You can bring a rack and get it scored for Boone & Crockett (or Pope & Young for bowhunters) and enter it in a contest if you want. Or just go to look. There are deer hunting seminars, vendor booths, demonstration booths, etc.

Congrats again! I can't wait to see the pics.

Congratulations Kirrmeister!
Good story of your hunt.Glad to hear you got one.Patiently waiting for the photos. :v
