She's a beaut, and obviously a shooter. You will have a ball with quail, I went a few weeks ago for quail for the first time, even got a couple. Of course I won't tell you how many I missed, but it was sure a lot of fun.

That's because you use shot... not a ball with quail :shake:

:rotf:

Nice buck with that smoothy.

Cheers,

cptleo,
That stock looks like curly ash. Is it? The wood is real pretty, but ash is heavy. How does it carry? It should shoot well.
God bless.

Good call

Curley Ash it is.

Wayne Dunlap called me and told me he had two planks. I had him cut me this blank.

It is the first time I have used this wood and I really like it.

She carries and points well. I also used a modern steel BBL to cut down on the weight. So I don't know if it is heavy or not.

Now I am curious I will go weigh her and get back with ya.

What would a traditional Walnut Tulle weigh ?

I'm at a loss....How is your "modern steel" barrel different from any other? And , how does that effect weight?
An Ash stock will add a pound or so to the finished weight of the gun. It's a real hard, dense, heavy wood. I've stocked several guns in it and like it. I wouldn't recomend it for anything that has a lot of high detail relief carving on it.
That's a nice looking gun by the way.

Gotta agree Mike, Did a Figthorn in curly ash and the carving took at least 4 times longer than usual, but other than that, it's a beautiful wood to work with. Now I only stock southern mt. and tenn styles with it. Nice deer by the way. There is no 12 step program for smoothbore addiction!

She is a .62 cal.

Load is 65gr 2F
over powder wad
1/2 cusion wad
.61 CAL ball (no patch)
19 Ga. over shot card

The doe was 4 steps away - double lung pass thru
The buck was 43 steps - slight quartering away pass thru.

I am trying to set up a ML Quail hunt here in Florida -

There are several places between Orlando and Okeechobee to do it. I would think we would need
a group or groups of 4-6 hunters and we can do 1/2 or whole day hunts.

The going rate seems to be in the $325 1/2 day range each hunter gets 20-25 birds each.

I would be proud as a group to get 25 birds - whatever.

I will be going on a quail hunt in Labelle FL in two weeks I will know a lot more then.

If any of you'll want to get involved, let me know

I just think it would be a hoot to see a half dozen tricorns, a huge ball of white smoke and the sound of laughing quail flying off in the distance.

If somebody has connections to do something like this in North FL or S. GA I am up for that also.

Have fun
Make smoke
Have more fun

Thanks

God Bless

Leo
