how do you fit a hammer to a new gm barrel on a renegade. even switching barrels on two renegades i have showed that the hammer may not hit the nipple the same way. i do like wv hillbillys suggestion of fitting an extra hammer to match the barrel and swapping it out when switching barrels.

I'm surprised you have problems with the hammer? I've "dropped in" several of GMs barrels to my Renegades and have had to file off the end of the barrel channel to clear the stock and/or the inside of the staple to get the wedge key to fit. Never had any issues with hammer alingment. Even swapping these "fitted" barrels between stock assys has not created any problems other than slightly tight/loose wedges.

How far off is your hammer hitting? Mine are not dead center but no issues with hitting the rim on the hammer. They even shoot well when I forget to pry out 2-3 spent caps that have become stuck to the underside of the hammer.

i went to swap barrels between two renegades and the nipple angle with the hammer wasn't close. just curious how the hammer would be altered. i still haven't decided between a .40 and a .58 as an alternate barrel

That is easy, ONE of EACH! :rotf:

I do know what you mean.......

This is scarey......but I have a 40 and a 58 on my wish list too............. :shocked2:

I had a european made repro percussion gun that didn't line the hammer up with the nipple well at all. I used marking die on the top edge of the nipple to show me where the high spots were on the hammer, then used a dremel tool and grinding bit to remove the high spots. Kept testing until the hammer cut a nice " donut " like a paper punch, on a new nipple. Solved the stuck caps in the hammer issue by using a triangle file to file open a relief in the front edge of the hammer skirt. This allows the gases to blow the cap open towards the front of the gun, away from my eyes, which released the caps so they could fall off the nipple, or hammer, when I cocked the gun after firing. Uncle Mike's " HOT-SHOT" nipples were designed to accomplish the same thing, by providing a port for gases to hit the edge of the cap and blow it out, breaking any seal that may occur between the cap and nipple, or in you case, with the hammer skirt.
