I don't know if this abortion of a gun I bought (Traditions Pa. Pellet) can be classified "tradition muzzleloader" but I am really looking forward to the next 5 days.

A great friend is coming up from Virginia and we are going to hunt the Allegheny National Forest in Elk and Forest counties of Pa. for five days.

Can't wait!
  1. He is a gourmet chef so I know we will eat well.
  2. We smoke expensive aged Cuban cigars when we get together.
  3. We drink rare craft beers when we get together.
  4. I have made a few modifications to this gun and I expect it to go bang.
  5. The weather looks cold enough that any snow should stay around, and our camp is is a snow belt.

I'm sure 1-5 will be good since I simply love being in the unspoiled nature of the ANF.

1,2, and 3 sound GREAT! 4? Well, good for you for doing the best you can with what you have. I truly hope you get a deer with that, "abortion of a gun."
#5? You can keep, although warmer there then than it will be here tomorrow.
I get more and more intolerant of the cold every year. 30s and 40s is one thing, this single digits and teens with wind chills down in the negatives is b.s.
Sometimes I wish Al Gore had been right.

Good luck. Hope you both get a deer and enjoy the camp comforts.

Thanks guys. I don't have any problem with cold but driving my 1979 F-150 in single digits can be fun.

You might want to switch from your pellet gun to a flintlock for hunting. I don't even know if CO2 cartridges work in extreme cold.

Got my 6" lifted 79 F-150 stuck in an ice dam today! Its a puddle I have driven through 50 times but we had zero degrees for a few days and when I broke though, I got saddle bagged on 10" x 2' x 2' icebergs sticking up at all kinds of bad angles.

That was the most violent ride I have ever experienced backing it out.

Took about 15 tries!

I can tell you the eastern side of the ANF is just as good at the western side. And the northern area is even better. I'm amazed at all the people camping in the summer, setting up simple tents or big travel trailers pulled into every log landing they can find.

Our camp is in the ANF. McKean Co. Westline area. It's fantastic. You'll work for the deer but they are there. I was hoping to get out there for the final weekend but scheduling didn't permit it. It's my favorite place to be. Good luck to you!
