What size flint do I need for my TC Hawken? I had read somewhere to use 3/4x7/8. I bought some Tom Fuller flints that were this size and they are too long. Should I be using 3/4x3/4?

I use 5/8 x 3/4 in my Firestorm. I am guessing, (but I don't know for sure) that the lock and frizzen between the two is pretty much the same size.

Fuller 3/4" W x 7/8" L gave me the best results and flint life for years.
Fold the leather in half and punch a 1/4" hole in the middle of the bend.
That lets the leather slide back past the the jaw screw, allowing the flint to also move further back, giving the little extra room needed.

I tried that and it helped but the flint is still touching the frizzen at half ****. I am thinking about notching the rear bevel of the flint. I don't need much more and I think it will work fine. I know this flint throws a lot more sparks than the sawn agate that came with the rifle.

Yes, those agates were junk.
I will say in a bag of 100 3/4" x 7/8" Fuller flints there would occasionally be 1-2 that were an eyelash longer than 7/8", but they were the exception, not the rule...also notched the rear edge of those with a Mizzy Wheel that I used to "flat top" the humps off some

what Roundball said ... those sawn agate flint- oid thingies are a complete waste of time: I cannot begin to understand why T/C insists on sending otherwise normal people such complete junk ...

I suppose that they're good for ballast, or throwing at politicians, but not for much else.

I've only had to take a dremel wheel to a few of them, by the way ...

good luck with your project; your flints will soon fit, and then you can proceed to the good part:

make good smoke!

Well, I ended up taking a deer antler tip and flaking off a small amount on the rear short bevel of the flint. It now is a perfect fit and throwing sparks to the floor. Thanks for your replies.
