Just cause I have time on my hands, thought I'd post photos of the little Flint wallets I use in my hunting pouches...I also slide a flint leather in behind each one...figure I need three to salvage one:
I'll drop the first one in the leaves and won't be able to find it;
I'll mount the second one and it'll shatter when I tighten the jaw screw;
The 3rd one should make it OK.

I have a couple of those that i made, though not quite a purty as yours. :grin: Mine hold 4 flints. They work good. Beats throwing them in the bottom of the bag and having them get broke or lost.

Looks great and a great idea. One more thing to add to the growing list of "needed items".

Me neither. :grin:
I'm thinking on making one,just fishing for info. :hatsoff:

I've made several of them out of scraps of raw leather and put together with artificial sinew. They look great and are very functional. For whatever reason, I too made mine to hold 3 flints, but included a full length pocket to hold the flint leather and made the flap long enough to go around twice (both of which also adds more layers of protection for the flints).

(Sorry, ML stuff not unpacked yet from the move last weekend so can't do pictures right now.)

for some reason my 3 flint wallet lets one flint slip out..I need to work on it..I'd guessed that I was wrong to make it for 3 flints, not two, but I see that it can be done..Hank

I'd like to see a picture of yours sometime,whenever you get a chance.I'm thinking a wallet has got to be better than stuffing them into the pocket of my "Hardwoods Pants". :v

The flint wallet that the guy originally made held 8 flints and wrapped around a second time...I specifically asked him to make some for me that only held 3 flints and only folded over as shown...this was to reduce size & weight.

FWIW, I've carried one of these in every caliber pouch for a few years now and never had a flint break yet...can't imagine getting any kind of high physical impact force to my pouches that it would take to break a flint inside these flint wallets which are already inside the pouch... :hmm:

RB,

That is a good looking wallet. I make a similar wallet, but I either put the securing knot of the thong on the inside where it won't show or I stitch the thong to the inside between the layers when sewing up the individual slots. If the wallet is more than 4 flints, I find that two thongs is a good idea to retain the flints on the ends. I have also tied a thong with a slip knot at each end to pull tight over the ends.

I use linen thread which is waxed for the stitches.

No offence roundball if it works for you use it but, I have carried flints in a small deerskin pouch for years stuffed with some tow and have never broken one ether, I have considered making a flint wallet but it looked like a unnecessary space taker upper.

What anyone decides to use is certainly no offense to me...I just made a post to share some info of something that I happen to use...wasn't promoting it, trying to push it down anyone's throat, etc

I am not / never will be a pure traditionalist and as such don't happen to have any other little things like deerskin bags, tow, altoid tins, snuff boxes, etc...so when I decided I wanted to carry a few spare flints, I simply had a few of these little flint wallets made
:hatsoff:
