What do you mean by real?

If you mean it is real muzzleloader probably made by one of the House family then it is real. The lock looks like a Maslin made in '70s or '80s by Russ Hamm but I could be wrong.

I would verify just how either Hershel or Frank House sign their rifles and also find out if there are other related House family members. Could be some builder named House who is unrelated or worse yet, a builder trying to dupe some buyer. Can't be too cautious these days.....Fred

It's a for sure real flint lock rifle, but is it a "House" rifle? I would want a good picture of the signature and any corresponding verification. It should be easily identified.

that is what i was wondering about, i know it is a real gun :shake: . i thought house built all their parts? The guy said it belonged to his dad and been on a wall hanger in his house for the last 15 years. The triggers look like store bought with the screw sticking out the bottom. Looks like a aqua fortis finish.

I'm more inclined to say yes than not. It clearly is a high quality build. The carving and engraving are simple and minimal but very well executed. Behind the cheekpiece appears to be incised, not relief, but that may be how it was ordered. It's clearly not the work of an amateur hack like myself. Would a builder capable of first class work put someone else's name on it? Maybe, I don't know. I think it would be well worth a trip to visit the House boys. Take along someone to operate the camera since you'll want to be in the photo yourself. And don't forget to post those photos right here.

Looks like a Russ Hamm lock to me too...

I'm sure curious about what in the last photo looks like a separate wooden underlug on a full stock rifle.

Warmest Regards,
Robert

I think that's an incised line on the fore stock. You can see that it curves at the end by the muzzle cap. The pins make make it look flatter than it is.

Perhaps a try to contact the House brothers and let them verify whether this is one of theirs. :idunno:
It is purty though

Good chance its real. It has to be a real, real, early one. Lock is right for that time frame as well. Looks like a Russ Hamm.
