Hello all, I’m brand new to this forum and hoping to find the information that I need to acquire a flintlock shotgun mostly for hunting turkey, maybe pheasant and rabbit too.

I’ve been scouring the net looking for info but still pretty confused. A custom built shotgun or a Pedersoli is pretty pricey so I’m looking for a little cheaper way to get what I need.

I’ve considered buying something like a used TC 54 cal Renegade and sending the barrel to Bobby Hoyt to have it bored out to maybe a 20 or 28 gauge. Good idea?

What would be an economical way to get the gun that I’m seeking?

I’m not trying to get it done for 3-4 hundred but 2k for a custom shotgun is just not in my budget right now.

Suggestions Please

Thanks, Tom

Thanks Denster, I was looking at that Mortimer, looks like a real nice gun.

I would probably consider 1000 for the right gun.

Did you ever shoot one?

Yes I had one a few years back. It was an excellent shotgun as close to a custom gun as you can get without going double or triple the money.

Loyalists arms sell military carbines flint lock and in the $600 range. About the same price as a kit from track or sitting fox. A NWG or pseudo TFC with a shorter barrel, 30 or 36 inch may serve your needs.
