I have a T/C .50 cal. Hawken. I want to build a .54 cal. pecussion, probably a Lyman GPR. Before i do that, is it possible to drop in a .54 barrel, and percussion lock in my Hawken flinter. I don't know if they are interchangeable.

I would like to have a .54 pecussion. I would use it during all our deer seasons except the late flintlock. It seems to me it would be a little more weather tolerant, and I'm not a big fan of inlines.

I haven't done it myself, but plenty of folks have both barrels and locks and interchange between them. They should just drop in.

hi ho pa,

sorry but the answer is nope, nope and nope. the bbl of a tc 54 has a larger diamiter than a tc 50. it would be best to trade that 50 flinter (is it a flint??) for a 54 perc.

maybe some one makes a small dia 54 that would fit. check with green mt.

PS.. if you are thing about a trade, let me know

..ttfn..grampa..

As Bob said "Whatever for?" you're going in the wrong direction. :shake:

Grampa ia partly right. The T/C .54 barrels are 1" across the flats and the .50 Hawken barrels are 15/16", but you could get an after market barrel (say a Green Mountain drop-in) in 15/16 x .54 that would work quite well for what you want.

Thanks,I'll check out the Green Mtn. barrel. I really enjoy shooting flint, I though with a different caliber in percussion, it would give me more oppotunity to be in the woods with black powder. There were some rainy days in our early season I would have hunted with a percussion rifle.

I checked into the Green Mtn. barrel and percussion lock, and found out the cost will be close to $300.00. A Lyman GPR kit is about the same cost, plus I have the fun of building it. Guess what I orderd this morning.
