With spring in the air here I am finally able to dig the forge out of winter hibernation and get some things done. Here is a hawk that I made for a friend. I forged it from some 4140 1 1/2" round steel that I dug out of the scrap bin at work. I drilled a series of 1/4" holes for the eye then punched and drifted it out. I am not too keen on the spike portion of the hawk but it was a request so there you have it. The spike makes it a tad on the heavy side I think. The handle is 20" curly maple stained with aquafortis. Hand-rubbed boiled linseed oil completes the finish. I like linseed oil. My friend is a hawk-o-phile and this is the third that I have made for him. It was a good project to get my hammer arm in shape for the summer. :)

I like the overall package. That spike kinda looks like the Washington monument, on my computer  ...Bud

Sorry Mike but I never got the chance to weigh it. I called my friend and told him his hawk was done and he beat-feeted it over to my house and grabbed it before I measured anything on it! Needless to say he was anxious to have it. Thank you all for your comments :hatsoff:
