Last week I attended the Fort Roberdeau 18th Century Market Fair and Rifle Frolic at a restored Revolutionary War frontier fort in the mountains north of Altoona, Pennsylvania. This is really two separate but coordinated events, with the Market Fair located at Fort Roberdeau. The camp at the Market fair is limited to 1790 portrayals. The Rifle Frolic is held at the Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club. The camp at the gun club allows portrayals up to 1840.

The two events are less than a mile apart, connected by a forest path, or paved roads, if you prefer to drive back and forth.

This was a great event in a beautiful setting with lots of shooting, shopping, camping and historical displays and presentations.

I’ll be back next October.

I was in Gettysburg that weekend and drove out there Saturday, nice event and the history is interesting, hopefully next year I will be able to participate, just getting back into this stuff after 20 years and wonder why I ever left? It was a nice event, would like to know where some of the lead mines were though!!
