I wish there was someway the proven test results that have been performed over the years just that I’ve been here could be filed.

I’ve never had much luck with the search box

A lot of the Members who done a lot of the testing have passed on or found other interest.

It’s a shame , I wish there was a file like for the articles about shooting and such has just for testing results.

Just a thought :hmm:

Prove what?
There's a specific section for all most every "provenance" of different things all loaded with tons of anecdotal information.
Reality is if you dig through it,, and see the same answer coming up year after year from several different posters,, it tends to mean something.
Other wise,, I've seen a lot of "one hole" groups talked about here. All of them "proving"??

I’m talking about things like lock timing, testing lubes in different situations and such.

I thought it would be nice for some of the “newer” members here too see some of the “older” results .

I too would like to look back and find certain results , if for nothing else just to give the process a try or just refresh my memory .

As stated “I’ve” never had much luck with the search feature ,
Maybe a tutorial on how to use the search button. LOL

Seems I remember a thread on lock timing ......

Another flint vs perc debate from days past.

These were timed, slo -mo photographed results.

Not that big of a deal , just one of many things I’m trying to refresh my memory of. :hmm:

It could have been somewhere else I saw it, but I sure thought it was here. :shake:

I have my own difficulties with the search function here on the site, but I'm a bit skeptical that more sections or "departments" would work as well as an improved search function.

I'm on a site for one particular brand of RV, and they tried a section for each model. Pretty quick it got bogged down because what happens when somebody talks about several models in the same post, as often happens here. Pretty darned quick you were back to looking in a bunch of sections to track down the reference you needed. It could be "refereed" with a lot more moderator work, but I don't even want to saddle anyone with that job.

Easier searches for dummies like me? Most certainly! But rearrange the existing structure of the site and add more sections? Meh.....

I agree Guys less clutter less confusion .

Y’all are probaly right about saddling someone too , I didn’t think about that .

But there’s not that many I can recall other than the lock testing.
Maybe some testing of different powders and such that showed MV

I was thinking more inline  (sorry for the abusive langage) with just saving the results maybe in the Articles section for reference later.

I know when I first became a member here I read as much in that section as I did on the live forum.

There’s still a ton of good info stored there.

Still probaly more of a burden than its worth....

I should have saved the ones that interest me to a file myself

A couple of points about using our Search function.

It doesn't like words with less than 4 letters in them. If you want to use a phrase with a word with one, two or three letters in it put the whole phrase inside quote marks.
The search engine will then treat the whole phrase as one big word and go look for it.

Old posts, older than one year can be found by going to the Advanced Search and changing the "Match posts made" from its "and newer", to "and older". It will then start its search a year back and look further back in time.

If you can remember the name of the person who posted whatever your looking for, add his/her name to the "User Name" box.

The posts that show flintlock speed and have some videos that show flintlocks firing were made by Pletch so, put that name into the "User Name" box.

Doing this will make the search engine look only at the posts that member posted.

Don't use simple words if your looking for some specific thing.
Putting "Flintlock" into the "Keywords" box will get you a zillion hits.
Putting "Flintlock + speed" will reduce the hits to posts with both words in them so you will probably only get a few thousand hits. :rotf:

Thanks Zonie , yes Pletch was the one who did the testing on the lock speed

I’ll see what I can dig up (“ I forgot to use the quotation marks “)

Thanks again! :hatsoff:

I saw my name mentioned and thought I should speak up. I have timed a bunch of locks, tested ignition of various powders, and also location of priming powder in the pan. These have been done over a period of time from the late 90s to the present. Some of these have been published in MuzzleBlasts. I have tried to collect this stuff on a web site:
Blackpowdermag.com
There is a pull down menu. It's been fun, but I'm winding down a bit lately.

Regards,
Pletch

Thank You Sir :hatsoff:

This is the type info I was referring too.

It would be a shame to loose those test results over the years.

When it’s on film it’s hard to dispute the results .

I will check out your web site and Thanks again for responding.

You have hit upon one of the conundrums of internet forums. On this, and thousands of other forums on thousands of topics, an incredible amount of information has been brought forward and made available to the broad public but it is not nearly as useful as it ought to be.

Specific topics are hard to search for and there is a lot of chaff in with the wheat. Topics are brought up again and again and any given time may receive more or less, better or poorer answers.

The forums of the future will need massive artificial intelligence rearranging posts into a wiki-like format to mine the true value of the content.

By the way spelling makes a tremendous difference.

Software is stupid and cannot guess what you want.
:eek:ff

Have any of you guys seen the insane 4th grade level spelling on major news networks lead stories on the internet? OMG! And they have spell check I'm sure, they just don't give a Sh_t.
As a prior newspaper printer I recall the publisher stopping the presses every time to add a comma or correct a misspelled word in Dear Abby. Technology is robbing us in many ways

I see a My Favorites tab over on the right side of the screen that seems like it ought to be a place to save posts/threads like you're talking about. However, I can seem to find an option anywhere to save anything as a favorite... :idunno:

Maybe this is a premium member feature? Or just operator error?

Thanks for pointing that out.

My Wife always complains that when I drive I never keep my eyes on the road.... I guess I should do more rubber necking while using the Forum .

I’ve never really paid any attention to the right side border along side of the post I’m reading.
