Whal the thermometer got all the way up to 40 degrees today, so I grabbed my TC White Mountain Carbine and took my shot for the duel. Pretty good 'un if'n Ah do say so. Then I settled down to some serious load development.
Started out with 75 grains of FFg Wano, a Remington cap, and a 245 grain Black Belt, lead flat nose. Since mah trusty bench rest (tractor) developed a dead battery, ah was forced to shoot from the offhand position. Managed a 3 1/2" 5 shot group from 50 yards, the shot furtherest from the center was 2 1/4" and the closest were 1 1/8". Not bad fur a one eyed, fat man. :rotf:
Now ah'm ready fur them danged rootin' hogs thet might invade mah garden this year.
There wuz only one hitch, the danged thing fouls up too much after a mere two shots. Ah'll havta wipe this'n if ah develop hog fever. :surrender:

Put a Walter's fiber wad under that bullet to seal the powder gases behind the bullet and I am willing to bet your groups shrink in size, and you get better velocity.

These conicals are the original incarnation of Power Belts, and have a, (may I say) plastic sealing ring on the base. I may try a wad if I can find my .50 caliber ones. :v

For me, I thought that was an awfully tight off hand, 50 yard group. I'd want a whole lot better one for a rested group.
