I have been using Goex 2f powder for all load testing in the new fowler because that was all i had. I wasn't getting the kind of results i wanted, especially with shot loads. So yesterday i went and bought a lb of 3f from the local supplier and took it out to try that in it. Right from the start it was better. Ignition was great, and i fired the first 3 rd balls into a group that was just over 3/4" center to center at 25 yds. Fired some more rd balls and got similar group. Then i tried it with shot loads. I had been getting erratic patterns with the 2f but the 3f is doing good. Think i will be using 60 grs of 3f, 4 thin overshot card wads, an index card paper shot cup that is cut to hold 7/8 oz of shot, and 1 1/8 oz of #5 lead shot for turkeys. I know the shot cup is shorter than the load of shot, but that is what seems to work. Averaging 10-12 pellets in the head neck area on a turkey target at 21 yds. I keep my shots at that range or less, so i think it will work fine.

congrats, Rebel, I had good results with 2f in my 20,will stick with it till after turkey season then will do some experimenting.

Sounds like you're doing well Rebel. Hopefully we'll be seeing you soon, posing proudly with your new fowler and a big gobbler.

That's been my experience too...I like everything about Goex 3F...faster than 2F, cleaner then 2F, and almost always more accurate than 2F for me...and true in just about every caliber & situation I try.

I have stayed with 2F in the .58 and .62 rifles because it happens to be very accurate in them and I have a few cans of 2F left so I figure I'll stay with 2F for those two...and I only use them for hunting so a little extra 2F fouling isn't an issue in those cases as I completely clean the bore after a shot anyway.

Current example of 2F vs. 3F:
Practicing at the range today with my .62 smoothbore turkey load, I experimented with 80/90/100grns of Goex 2F but in every case the pattern was thinner than with my normal 80grns 3F.

I hope to have some pics. I am hunting in Period clothing this year as well. I got a hunters shirt and then had Sara make me the Forest Green with black fringe hunters frock, and she is making me a pair of drop front trousers now. I made me a set of wool knee high leggings the other day, so i am all set to chase turkeys on Public land this year and do it PC.

I would have used 3f from the start if i had any available. But after the 2 sessions trying the 2f i decided i needed to get some 3f and try it out. Glad i did. I went and got 9 more lbs today.

That is some great news about your load development Rod! I can't wait to see some pics of the turkey you are gonna bag this year.

Yeah Rod do try to share some pics with us I realy like to see others outfits, sounds like the Turkeys in your neck of the woods are in trouble but will pass on in a noble honorable manner.

Well thanks Bill and TG, i hope the turkeys cooperate so i have one for the pic. As for the clothes, they will be As close to PC as i know how to get.

I think that is what we all do...I am not so far into it that I must find sheep and cotton and flax plants with the same genetic strain as was around 250 years ago.

I sewed a small folding pouch that the liscence fit in and it ties with a thong and tucks into my shooting bag, it is kind of like the plastic ones you get with the liscence only a bit larger and made of leather.
