Would a Fox Hide make a good Shooting Bag ??

Might be a bit thin, I would make the bag out of thicker material and use the Fox as a cover so to speak.

 

you could line it with another type leather, as suggested, or use a heavy fabric like canvas or tow linen. Glad to hear you are making a bag from it. Hope it turns out well.
I see more dead foxes on old model mountain mens' heads than anywhere else. Goes good with the Tandy leather gear, fake eagle feathers and Crow beadwork on Souix leggins!

That's where I keep my fox hide, right on my head!!! Once you wear a fur hat on a cold day, you'll know why mountain men wore fur hats... Surprisingly, it's also comfortable on a hot day! I think it's to thin to make a shooters bag from, but as suggested, it could be used as a liner or outside cover on a bag...

If it is not a comericaly rased fox hide, I would use a lice shampoo in the fur side, otherwise... :winking:

Everyone might need to be careful with furs at re-enactments. Some states do not allow possession of various hides, even for out of state residents. I have seen long experienced buckskinners "hauled off" for possession of illigal animal parts. Saw a 70 year old man arreseted for having a hawk talon around his neck. He'd been wearing it for years without knowing about the predatory bird laws. No excuse, they took him anyway.

Ah found that iffen ye doesn't feed um fer awhil tha gets kinda holler whar their pod are. Then ye jus kinda wring um down on yer head like that an yer in busness.

Course it ain't without it's dangurs. Once he saw someun openin a can o dog food an he nearly tore ma ears off a tryen ta get som.

As fer em Feds what Ah's a pain' wit ma tax dollars, Ah would rathar see um out a pickin up roadside junk or somthin lik that than herassin honest folks.
