I just bought a Loyalist Arms early French Fusil de Chasse in .62 cal., 44 1/2 inch long, oct. to round barrel. Was wondering if anyone else has one and what info they could give me on this flintlock. Ball size that you use, patch size you use, powder charges, all that works for you. I know it will end up being how well I learn my flintlock and what it can do, and what I can do together with it. But any info would be a great help. In another post I have stated this but I mean what types of problems has anyone had, what do you like about it, anything need to be done to help the weapon, things I should get for it, and so on.

Beowulf65,
There are a few members here that are quite experienced with the Tulle. They will help you I'm sure.Do you have any pictures? How Did you Find Blair to deal with?

Try 70 grs of Goex 3f an overpowder wad, half a lubed cushion wad started just below the muzzle, then put a .600 rd ball on it sprue up and a thin overshot card wad on top and ram the cushion wad, ball, and overshot card all down at once. In your other post you mentioned wanting to deer hunt out to 75 yds or so. You MIGHT be able to hunt with your smoothbore at that range after a LOT of range time. A good realistic range is 50-60 yds and then only after you practice enough to keep all you shots in the kill zone of a deer at that range. If you can consistantly keep them all on a paper plate at a given range, then you are good to go to hunt at that range.

I have a French Tulle 1690's model from Loyalist Arms...it is in .69 cal...my problem was to find the right balls for it. The LEE mold in .69 made balls that are a tad too large...I sinced bought 2 US made muskets in 62 cal and the LEE mold in .60 works just fine...playing with the patch thickness allow for some play but the ball has to fit in the bore first...Hope you have better luck than me finding the right components...Lyman has a good selection of mold sizes.
My Loyalist Arms Tulle in .69 cal is realy a .677 cal bore size so it need a special diet...have you measured your .62?

Yeah, I got a few pics and need to upload them from my computer. This weekend I'm browning the barrel, locks, and antiquing the furnature, and working on the stock to give it an antiqued look.
I had a T/C .50 years ago but a divorce lost me that rifle so I'm getting back into blackpowder. Ordering a Cabela's Blue Ridge Rifle in .36 caliber for my 15 yr. old son. He'll use it when we go trekking and do living history. Any here have a Cabela's Blue Ridge? If so how do you like it. A friend of mine has one and I had to do a little work on it for him, another friend of mine is an armorer so I use his shop as he teaches me what to do and not to do, I find it really fu and relaxing to work on old weapons and he's teaching me a lot of good info.
Dealing with Blair at Loyalist Arms was great, he asked if there was anything special I wanted done, was sooooo courtious and professional and gave me a date on when to expect my rifle.
