Hey all, although I read this forum heaps, this is my first post in a while.

Friend of mine has been after an Enfield since he fired my 1858 three bander. He saw this one for sale in Australia and managed to land it for $600 delivered before he phoned me and said he'd done the deal.

This is the only available picture:

It's described as a .58 Tower two bander, but what throws me is the lock is dated 1872 - VERY late for a muzzle stuffer - and the length of the barrel protruding from the stock looks too short for it to be a Pattern 1858 or 56.

The way I see it, for the money it was worth taking the punt, and if the rifle has been fiddled with, he'll be able to turn it around for what he paid for it as a shooter.

Any thoughts on what the rifle may be? Did Tower manufacture muzzle loaders as late as 1872? Volunteer Pattern maybe?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

When he gets it home, have him look at the markings.
Carefully take the barrel out and look on the underside.
For 600 US I'm thinking a replica, Euroarms or similiar.
A Parker Hale 2 Band is going for 1100 US....
