What does it take to remove modern blueing from a barrel?

What is a good product to brown a barrel?

Ive always liked the browned metal much better, and would like to maybe do this to several guns.

Thanks

Boone

Sand paper if you dont want to use chemicals for removal.

As far as browning, I like Laurel Mountain Forge. Easy and nice. You can see my result on a post in this area on my underhammer build.

Navel jelly will take it off, or some good ole elbow grease and some fine grit sandpaper. I use Laurel Mountain Forge Barrel Brown & Degreaser.

Muriatic acid takes most blueing off very quickly. Use outside on a breezy day, so the fumes blow away from you. Heavy acid proof rubber gloves, googles and a rag. Rinse water close at hand. Wipe the barrel down, rinse it off. Done.

Some folks use it to brown, but I like LM's product better.

I got my jug of acid from a friend that changed swimming pool chemicals. 1/2 gallon, refinished nearly a dozen rifles and pistols, and still got quite a bit left.

Birchwood Casey also makes a Blueing remover that works well for stripping the barrel back to a raw condition.
Most Gunstores have it.

An acid based rust remover, you can buy it at most auto parts and hardware stores.

Another vote for Naval Jelly and LMF Browning solution. I got a small bottle of Naval Jelly from my Hardware store many years ago. A little does go a long ways.

If you do a search on my my alias or under browning you should find several posts with very detailed notes I have made on browning over the years. If not I can post them again.
