Today is my first day to have any experiance with a muzzleloader. My fathr in law let me borrow a 50 cal build it yourself model. He said he built it over 30 years ago and never shoot it one time. I have always wanted to try muzzleloaders but I was to into traditional archery. Along comes my new family and a quest for new things to do with a 7 year old girl and a 9 year old boy. The boy is not into hunting, because his biological dad is not. The girl has been mine for 6 of her 7 years, so she will go hunting with me. Both of them enjoy archer. Well last fall we went to Arkansas and met some reenactors at Mt Magazine and later at Pinnacle Mountain. Both kids really enjoyed the chance to be reenactors themself when we went to Pinnacle. The boy does have an interest in guns since his dad was in the reserves. I am hoping that the muzzleloader with bridge to gap from Armyman shooter to mountainman hunter with a muzzleloader. My levels of life experiance range from being a carpenter builder, to retired paramedic of 23 years. I am versed in traditional archery and home remodeling. so if I can help anyone with remodeling or emergency medical issues I should be the man.

Welcome to the forum. I think you will like it here and you can gain a world of information on traditional black powder firearms. There is something about black powder and kids; they seem to be drawn to it like kids to candy. I firmly believe it is the best way to teach a child to shoot. It's easy to adjust the load to the child's size and the first time they hit the target their smile is HUGE. Have fun.

Welcome! Good to hear you are working on the kids; the three of you (maybe Mom too?) can grow together with muzzleloading a common interest. Good luck!

I am back in the game. I just bought a TC hawken. 50 cal. Unbelievable condition. Now I do know that the first thing I need to do is get a TC peep sight to go on the gun. I have terrible eye sight and I hear that a peep is better then open sights. I am going to try RB with this gun. I felt like I was cheating using the sabot cheap shots that I used this fall. If I can find real BP I will use that also. I will be looking for a good used TC peep sight if anyone has one for sale. Let me know.

Welcome to the Forum! This is a great group to belong to.

Glad to hear that you are working to involve family in the fun... don't give up as there is something for everyone in the Rendezvous/Reenacting world.
