Howdy, I see on original rifles, the sights have tiny dovetails, but all of the vendors I am aware of sell front sights that one would have to hack deep in order for the bottom of the blade to rest on the barrel. :hmm: To remove material from the bottom of the sight base leaves a narrower than standard width, which is what I have done in the past. They were usually Ted Cash sights. What can a guy do? :shocked2:

I make my sights ,front and back from old sled runners. You can get a lifetime supply now due to global warming.

Put that sucker in the vise (assuming it's a solid cast front sight....) and file 'er down.

"standard dovetail"...what's that? :haha:

I like your idea. I make my fire steels out of ice skate runners. Get two out of each runner. Dilly

I always file the dovetails in my barrels and then make a sight that fits the dovetail. It is easy but takes a little time. Patience is crucial for a perfect fit. Always, think about it, measure twice. Think about it again and then measure it two more times just to be sure. Take off less than you think and try the fit just in case.
