I got a ? for ya,, I called Jack at T/C and asked him ( after I called truglo and others) Bout gettin a bigger optic front sight for my Hawken, He said no, but a lot of boys are goin scope, And a scope mount and the rings alone plus shippin will cost me bout $80.00 +,, Then I need a shotgun or ML scope for it,, SO my ? is,, do you know any place that I could get em to build me a bigger front optic sight?? I am far sighted (and my eyes got worse this year) and with glasses my sights are fine but I can't sea the target, and with out glasses, I can sea the target but not the FRONT sight, and bifocal don't work, I got to move my head to use the two,, Muzzle loadin huntin just won't be the same with a scope,, Do you or any one got any ideas on this?? :shocked2:

Something that has helped me a little is to use lower powered reading glasses. Normal reading for me requires 2X but I use 1.25X for shooting. I can make out the sights and the target. Another option is to take an old pair of glasses and take the lenses out and replace the one over the shooting eye with a piece of thick paper with a small hole. The small hole helps the eye to focus on the sights and target. A peep sight for the rear might do the same thing but is not allowed in some shooting matches.

Try this: take your regular glasses and a squarish piece electrical tape. Get the smallest punch you can find and put an aperture in the tape. Now stick it on your glasses lens where your shootin eye looks through. Cheap way to find out if it'll work for you.

Hobbles,

If you decide you need to scope it, let me know, I have a 2.5 shotgun scope sitting here doin nothin but collectin dust. I'll gladly send it your way if needed. :v

First, I'll say that's an individual at TC I've learned not to waste time dealing with;

Second, I don't have any silver bullet about the eyesight thing beyond what's already been mentioned.

I've also started using the 1.00 and/or 1.25 diopter reading glasses at the range to sharpen up the front & rear sights, and get some eye protection at the same time (I use the full size glasses at the range) but still haven't been forced to use them for hunting.......yet.

IMO, a problem with installing a larger front sight is that it covers up so much more of the target that precise accuracy begins to suffer so your accuracy isn't much better off in the long run anyway.

Everybody advances through these eyesight issues at some point and IMO, the simplist, most practical solution for clear open sights is just using some form of eyeglases...or a scope.

My .02 cents...

Thanks all, I have a peep sight and it worked good last year, but I guess it went bad, I even drilled one out bigger, I might have to take swamp rat up on that scope but not just yet, I will try the 125 glasses first, Darn boys,, I'm only 58,,

Hill, what hill,there wasn't any sign, when did I go over it? :rotf: To add to the trick of the tape ont the glasses, if you don't allready do it, try shooting with both eyes open. By useing the tape diopter (I'll assume a right handed shooter) being far sighted your left eye will be able to focuse on the target, and your right will be able to see the front site better. Make the hole as small as possible. It does take a little practice, so don't blow it off right away. Your eyes will need some time to adjust. Also deep breathing will help (more oxygen to the brain) This is one time a little hyperventilation will help. Instead of fiber optic try a little white out on the back side of the blade. Ya ain't dat old, that's just tread wear ya see in the mirror. :blah: Bill

Mornin Bill of the 45th

I never seen any hill either,, I told my Lady last year that I was at my peak, it's all down hill from here,,, I thought it was funny at the time,, I didn't know it was such a fast ride DOWN HILL,, :shake:

LASIK Eye Surgery boys. I'm 67 and after fighting with the glasses and contacts it was LASIK Eye Surgery, the best thing I ever did for shooting targets and for hunting. Hell some people even say I'm prettier.
