When I built my first smoothie, I ordered a turtle front sight. 20 ga barrel is round, bottom of turtle is flat. I rounded out the base, but things didn't look right, anyhoo the 4 little feets stick out, the head sticks up. Still do. I know these must be pounded down to contact the barrel. But I fear the brass or g silver, whatever, don't remember, may break at the bend???? :hmm: Heat and bend down, will the solder loosen it. Any recomendations?? :: good pics to see what it needs to look right??

You shouldn't need to heat it. If it were me I'd make a dummy barrel section using pipe or wood of about the right diameter and pound it to shape (using a brass drift punch or wood dowel section and not the hammer face).

You can also make a simple front sight by using a round based tenon for a barrel pin and filing the flat part to the desired shape and mounting it atop the barrel.

I use the turtle sites from the LOg-Cabin shop in Lodi,Ohio. They need a little dressing ,but I have had nice results with them. I use Low temp Sears hobby soldier and propane torch.

Good ideas all , great pics also. I have shot 20ga smothy for over 10 years and think it is the best all round gun I own . About 6 years ago , on a woodwalk ,I knocked the sight off . Finished the round , never looked back ..still shoot it without the sight!
I do like the looks of that German silver turtle
:m2c: :RO:
