Hey all
I just checked the Ft Vancouver website and saw that the annual Brigade encampment is set to happen on June 20-21st
I remember going to this event as a kid back around '87 or '88 and remember that it was a much larger more Rendezvous type event.
Now I go there and it's usually just a small cluster of tents with just a few volunteers to address the public.
I myself am going to see about volunteering there and I urge you Fur-Trade guys in the Portland-Metro and surrounding areas to do the same. There will be firearms demos and demos of period skills. I've discovered that the volunteers at the fort have done their homework and are quite knowledgeable about early Oregon history. They are an absolute joy to talk with, and I feel they enjoy chatting with fellow history buffs.
All in all it has been a fun event, but still very small due to a lack of volunteers who are willing to show up in PC garb, set up a tent, show their kit and explain to the public how things were back then.
Is there anyone out there who is interested?
